Last night was a farewell for one of our friends who left Bangkok after living here for 2 years. Instead of doing the usual eating at the simple italian recipes from blogspot home we decided to do something unique.
KARAOKE NIGHT, this was very welcome to everyone especially after being at the TOTO concert the other week.
Bangkok is full of Karaoke places. Again the girl from the slopes was the first time she went to Karaoke, we had separate rooms, food and drinks. The options are hiring the room for few hours or the whole night. Guess what the group opted for? The whole night.
So we rocked the goodbye tears into a very lovely evening that slowly gave way to night and soon it was morning and we had to go and sleep as 99% had to go to work as usual today.
So, next time you travel to Bangkok, put in some fun the Karaoke way if you love to sing.

Carbon Neutral Search
Many people ask what can I do to help the world? You can all do so much while seated infront of your computer, you can help the environment by doing your internet search through Carbon Neutral Search engine. We could achieve a lot on Climate Change if we all used carbon search engine on daily basis.
The question is how does it work?
Each search through carbon search engine will offsets emissions generated by each search query. The amount of carbon that they will offset a minimum of 300g but hugely depends from country to country based on power generation.
Currently they are using Climate Care and the Carbon Fund to provide with the offsetting, they work in mainly developing nations to provide real reductions in global carbon dioxide levels. Their projects can also bring a wide range of other benefits to local communities, such as poverty alleviation, health benefits and increased biodiversity. For more information on the projects Climate Care and Carbon Fund are carrying out you can view these on their websites.
It is your turn to help Carbon search engine do something on Climate Change
They have officially released the testing stage of the Carbon Neutral Search Plug-in for Firefox 2.0+ and Internet Explorer 7.0+.
Get this plugin and help save the world for the future generations

Weight Loss and Travel
How Not To Have Holiday Weight Gain?
I have a friend who told me that since he came to live here he has lost weight and is sure that it's the kind of food that he is eating. But, what do people think about travelling and holidaying versus weight loss and is it possible to be on a diet while on a holiday?
According to ChrisChew
As a professional fitness instructor, I often have clients asking me, "Hey Chris, I am going for a holiday vacation, I am afraid to gain weight during my vacation. What should I do?" or "I am going for my honeymoon and I always gain weight when I travel, can you teach me how to lose holiday weight gain without ruining my honeymoon?"
Actually the answer to holiday weight loss or preventive weight gain is a very simple. Just choose the holiday package with a lot of physical activities. Instead of going to the traditional tourist sight seeing trips, choose holiday activities that require you to burn calories and yet have fun. Yes, you can have a fun filled holiday and yet able to keep your weight in check!
Here are a few vacation holiday activities where you can have fun and yet will keep your weight easily in control.
Holiday Cruise - Your first thought would probably be how could you maintain your weight going on holiday cruises? It may escape you that most vacation cruise ships have sports facilities built in from tennis courts to gyms with full equipments and fitness personal trainers to boot. Some may even conduct weight loss classes on board the cruise liners. If you are going on a honeymoon cruise, what better way is there to lose weight and keep fit with your beloved spouse?
Winter Skiing - This is a no brainer. Skiing down mountain slopes require a lot of muscle work, coordination, cardio workout and flexibility. So can you imagine how many calories you can burn during your skiing winter holidays?
Weight loss camps - Sign up with a weight loss camp for your vacation. Weight loss camps are usually designed like a holiday resort and are usually located in very scenic locations such as on majestic mountains, pristine beaches or nestle in lush tropical rainforests. You can get a vacation holiday in a resort like environment and get to lose weight at the same time. Two for the price of one, eh?
Scuba diving - Did you ever notice that most scuba diving instructors have well toned muscles and attractive bodies? This is because they scuba dive almost every day leading novice divers sometimes up to 3 dives a day including night dives.
As a scuba diver and a former diving instructor myself, I know that the sport of scuba diving can be physically demanding for someone who is unfit and the activities burn a lot of calories. For example, you need to carry your own scuba gear, climb up and down the boats with heavy gear and at times swim against heavy currents every day at the same time looking after your trainees.
On top of that, the tan you get from sun exposure gives you a healthy glow and muscle toning illusion. So you want control your holiday weight gain? Go on a scuba diving vacation.
Use your creative imagination to easily come out with more holiday vacation ideas that can help you lose weight or at least not to have holiday weight gain.

Malaysia: Formula1 tourism
The other weekend when we were in Malaysia they were preparing for Formula1 rally. And we met many tourists in the ticket shop buying tickets. I guess it is cheaper to see it in Malaysia than Monza in Italy.
The Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix 10th edition. But I thought the tickets are very expensive also there maybe because I enjoy watching it on Television. The tickets vary on seating or standing locations, Mall Area - Upper Tier are the most expensive followed by Lower area. Then comes the Tower, corporate hospitality, then their goes Grand stand , and far behind the hill stand. I think if you are on the hill stand you need binoculars.
Well if you want more or planning to go to Malaysia for formular1 grand prix then check out the website here
And who won? I think Ferrari with Kimmi.

Cottage Holidays in West Cornwall
My Italian friends once a year go to England to spend their holidays, but believe me it is not easy sometimes to enjoy with 3 kids who are every other minute asking for spaghetti. So sometimes they come back very exhausted and missing home made food.
I'm for sure going to tell them about Holiday cottage cornwall who promotes self catering cottages in Cornwall. This way they will be able to enjoy their holidays more for sure as this exactly fits their kids demands.
Holiday cottage cornwall is a family run business operating on family values aiming at delivering first class service to their customers and providing quality accommodation at affordable prices. This is an ideal hideaway for families. Enjoying a holiday away from home but feeling like you are home what more would a family want?
I went over to their website and was attracted by all the deals they have, special offers, short breaks, romantic hideaways, pet friendly which I think you don't find in many places. And the most interesting feature is the gift voucher possibility, this comes in handy for those people you find it difficult to buy gift for.
I bet you are already packing your bags destination Cornwall one of the of the most beautiful holiday destinations in the world.

Easter travels
Travelling to Italy this Easter?
This is a school holiday in Italy and so many Italian families use this holiday to go to the mountains and seaside. But, many tourists flood major cities like Florence and Venice. If you are travelling there today be prepared to sleep in the traffic if you are driving and crowded trains.
It would be nice if you can organise to stay in smaller towns during this period. For example staying in Forli and visiting places around by train. Can go to Florence in a day by train and back at the same time you are 20 minutes away from the seaside. And there is so much to see around.

Avoiding Bankruptcy
Talking about finances and how to manage them without getting necessarily into debt. I personally think it is easy to live without fear of waking up one day and finding we are empty.
For me I can tell you that it is possible, forget how much you are earning a month. Just need some planning. The best thing that you should put in mind is that you will need to sacrifice a lot of things, you will not do everything your friends are doing, hanging out every Friday night, wearing expensive designer clothes. This is my choice, I love to do things myself so maybe this helps me a lot at the end of the day. I live an extremely simple life without exaggerating on anything and I must confess I have never found myself in debt. Of course I am a stay home Mom and the small income we have goes to school fees, rent, bills and so on. I remember one time a friend asked me how do you do that? My secret is learning to sacrifice and being happy for what I have. You can make it also you if you are willing to try.
If you are already in debt and really looking into getting out of them then try Debt Management see what they can do to cut those debts.

Malaysia formula1 or relax
I wrote on Friday that I was going to be away in Malaysia for the weekend. This was the 6th time I visited this lovely country. I have always admired the green in this country. So, the minute I set foot out of the plane I'm already in relaxation mood. This brings back memories of my growing up in the slopes of Mt. Kenya in the middle of tea, coffee, maize and forest plantations and with a view of snow capped Mt. Kenya every now and then.
Coming back to Malaysia, I also enjoy the food, I love ROTI chapati like bread and I don't seem to have enough that is why last time I went there I even had a restaurant near where we stayed prepare some Roti to take away back to Bangkok.
Now, the reason of this weekend travel was none other than to bring our almost 5 year old to a live concert by his favourite group "TOTO". For me it was an experience never to forget because of course for a girl from the slopes this was the first big live concert I went to so you can imagine we were both soooo excited.
In the next few posts I will take you through this last weekend.
Now, I can hear you humming in your heart "Rossana and Africa".
See you later then!

Travel Loans: Travelling on a loan is possible
Taking Out Loans For Travel
By : Peter Kenny
If you want to go on holiday but cannot afford the large payment in one go, then you might want to think about taking out a loan for travel purposes. Many people never get to travel to the places they want because of a lack of current cash flow. However, more and more companies are offering loans specifically for travel and holidays. If you want to know more about these holiday loans, then here are some tips about taking out a loan for travel purposes.
What are the costs?
Travel loans are a form of personal unsecured loan, although you can also get secured travel loans in some circumstances. You can usually borrow between £1,000 and £25,000, depending on your circumstances and how much you need to borrow. The length of repayment is shorter than traditional unsecured loans, with typical terms being between 1 and 4 years. You pay back the loan monthly as you would any other loan. Interest rates are fairly competitive, and range between 7 and 10%.
Why use a travel loan?
There are many reasons why you might want to use a travel loan, even if you could afford the holiday with your savings. Many holidays require a large fee up-front in order to secure the booking, and this can be a strain on anyone’s finances. Getting a travel loan will allow you to pay for all the associated costs of the holiday whilst still having enough money to live right now. A travel loan can allow you to travel to the places you have always dreamed of going, but thought you would never go to because you couldn’t save enough money at once.
Travel benefits
Another advantage of some travel loans is that they come with added travel benefits. Some loans include items such as free travel insurance or possible discounts on some holidays, depending on which lender you use. If these offers can help reduce the cost of your holiday, then it might be worth checking out the loan.
Who provides travel loans?
Travel loans can be got through your normal bank, or through travel agents who have teamed up with lenders to offer travel loans. There are a variety of loans available, and it pays to shop around to find the one with the best features and rates to suit your needs.
Why not a normal loan?
Getting a travel loan is slightly different to getting a regular unsecured loan, but is it better? Well, that depends on your circumstances and how much you need to borrow. Travel loans are dedicated to travel and holidays, and will help you get a better deal on your holiday. However, they have short loan terms, so if you want a longer term then you might want to go for a normal unsecured loan. In general, if you can afford to pay back the travel loan in the shorter term, then it will save you money and help you get the holiday you always wanted.

Romania: Bucharest - sightseeing
Church of the Patriarchate in Bucharest
It's already 7 months since we left Romania.
Church of the Patriarchate, built in 1657 and well preserved. We managed to be there when there was a ceremony and we witnessed an incredible ritual.
According to Wikipedia:
The Palace of the Chamber of Deputies (Romanian: Palatul Camerei Deputaţilor) (now the Palace of the Patriarchate (Palatul Patriarhiei); also known as the Palace of the Great National Assembly (Palatul Marii Adunări Naţionale) during the Communist regime) is a building in Bucharest, Romania located on the plateau of Dealul Mitropoliei. The building served as the seat of successive Romanian legislatures: of the Assembly of Deputies during the Kingdom of Romania, then of the Communist-era Great National Assembly, and after the Romanian Revolution of 1989, of the Chamber of Deputies. Parliamentarians vacated the building in 1997, when it passed to the Patriarchate of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
Describes it as follow:
The façade, done in a neo-classical style, is 80 m long. The imposing ground floor is dominated by the centre of the façade, the entrance area, detached and having a peristyle featuring six Ionic columns, the four in the centre grouped as pairs. The cupola, similar to that of the Romanian Athenaeum and located above the assembly hall, is raised, fitted with windows, and topped by an eagle; it forms the palace's central axis. The main façade has two side wings, architecturally subordinate to the entrance.
The side façade, on the northeast, is symmetrical and its ordered style confers upon it an imposing status. It is decorated with pilasters on two levels, these being decorated and dominant on the sides.
When seen from United Nations Street, the palace’s four levels can be observed. The first level has the appearance of a massive base and is made of stone; the second is powerfully carved; and above this is the level through which one enters the main façade, coming from the cathedral.

Low Airfares For Travel : No longer a dream
Get The Low Airfares For Travel
In the day to day life we get little chances of vacations and that too with our family members and that’s why it is very important for us to utilize the vacation period for a memorable family trip even though we have to arrange all the things at the eleventh hour. It is normally possible to arrange our family vacations in a smooth manner when we plan for it in advance but we have to go through last minute travel arrangements lest there is planning for vacation prior to it. In a family vacation you can get all the fun and excitement that are often associated with the traveling no matter whether you are traveling to a foreign place or a place near to your house. However, sometimes there are many problems for which we have to put off our plans in the last minute or change our plans. Many times we face such problems but there is no need to panic in case we have to cancel tickets and then again book it through other airplanes.
There are lots of options for such situations and that’s why you don’t need to cancel all your plans. If you have to go through last minute travel planning for your family you has to keep certain things in your mind. You have to ensure where you want to go and the basic reason behind it. You have to make plan with all your family rather than just selecting the place for its popularity. You have to make sure that all your family members are interested in it. For this reason you have to discuss this about your family to ensure which place all of you want to visit.
There are also different modes which you can choose such as air travel. However, traveling through air in the last moment will be very difficult though not impossible. You have to search through the internet and find out different airlines where you can get the booking for the last minute. You have to plan for it, if you are picking pick hours then there is less possibility to get air tickets where as in the off hours you have more chance. This is also similar in the weekdays when you have the chance to get tickets while in the weekends you can hardly get tickets in the last minute. So you have to plan accordingly to get the tickets for your destination. You can also discuss it with your travel agent who can help you in a great manner to get the air tickets. Apart from the tickets you have to also check out about the transportation and accommodation in the place which you want to visit. This way you can make your travel enjoyable.

Free Mortgage quote please
I am dreaming of an international travel business but capital is the problem, been looking around for a while now and a friend tells me now it is time. I have come across
Mortgages and I'm considering this Simple, Fast, Commercial Mortgages, looks like they have access to all commercial lenders and I feel this will ensure best deals. And more to that, Mortgages site say they are able to give a decision in principle within 48 hours and even have products for those with poor credit. Initially I only need to give some information about myself, a finance officer will evaluate and they will give me a quote.
I found their website also very helpful as they have a list of mortgage guides to help their customers out, you might also want to have a look at their website see if they can be of help whether you are a first time borrower like me, you need buy to let mortgage quotes, bad credit mortgages and more.
A quote from the site about mortgages: There have probably never been more household mortgage options available than there are in the present time. And while Banks, Building Societies and Mortgage Lenders vie with each other to offer more and more attractive packages to would-be purchasers.
So, make your choice today but make an informed choice. Don't jump into the first offer that gets to your mailbox.

Travel alert as 80mph winds lash UK
Winds of more than 80mph ripped through Britain as police warned travellers to use "extreme caution" amid fears of heavy delays.
Trees have been uprooted and buildings damaged across the country, with the emergency services bracing themselves after a night of gale-force winds.
There have been no major incidents reported so far, but forecasters warn the extreme weather will continue across southern England throughout the day.
The highest recorded wind speed so far is 82mph in Berry Head in Brixham, south Devon, while the Needles off the coast of the Isle of Wight experienced gusts of 70mph.
The winds were making their way towards London, with Heathrow being buffeted by 42mph winds. In other parts of the country the east coast of Northern Ireland hit 63mph, it was 49mph in Crosby in Merseyside and 46mph in Birmingham.
Police in Devon & Cornwall, South Wales and Dorset, the areas most severely hit overnight, said there had been no major incidents.
But all reported that trees have been uprooted on roads and rail lines and warned of the danger to commuters. In Lytchett Matravers near Poole in Dorset a tree came down on a house, but there are no reports of any injuries.
Inspector Mike Kynaston of Dorset Police warned people to make only "essential" journeys.
He said: "Unless your journey is absolutely essential I would not travel, and if you are travelling do so with extreme caution."
The Environment Agency currently has seven severe flood warnings in force, 48 flood warnings and 53 flood watches.

ROANOKE, Va. - Until now, the prominent features of Roanoke's skyline have been neon: a Dr Pepper sign, a giant star atop Mill Mountain and an animated coffee pot that pours its contents into a cup. Not far away, "Jesus Saves" glows in red from a hilltop church.

Travel Checklists
Before making reservations:
____ Check the safety and reliability records of the airlines you're considering flying on
Determine which airlines:
____ Offer discounts for seats for young children
____ Carry heart defibrillators
When deciding whether to use a travel agent and, if so, which travel agent:
____ Ask the travel agent if they deal with consolidators and if they have a good one they deal with (watch out for consolidators who are not honest and/or reliable) - to save money
When deciding when to fly:
____ Fly as early in the day as feasible - to reduce chances of flight delays
If considering using a charter airline:
____ Be aware that charter airlines tend to be less reliable (more likely than major airlines to be late or cancelled)
When selecting an airline and a type of aircraft:
____ Ensure the aircraft will have adequate medical equipment on board - many U.S. airlines don't carry adequate first aid equipment on the planes
When selecting specific flights:
____ Avoid flights which originate or stop at airports with poor security - to reduce chances of a terrorist attack
____ Avoid flights which have a short turnaround - to reduce chances of a terrorist attack - reduces time available to ensure security procedures are followed
____ Avoid stops at airports which might experience bad weather, e.g., choose warmer locations - to reduce chances of flight delays
____ Minimize the number of airlines and flights you fly on - to reduce risk of losing luggage
If you can't find a cheap fare to your desired destination airport:
____Consider flying to another airport near your desired destination, then driving or riding public transportation to your destination
Paying for your tickets:
____ Use a credit card - makes it much easier to get your money back if there's a problem with your reservations
When getting your seat assignments:
____ Request seats over the wing or towards the front - for a more comfortable ride
____ Request aisle seats or seats right behind a bulkhead - to get more leg room to help prevent potentially fatal blood clot resulting from sitting in seat for long period
____ Request seats which recline fully - seats at very rear and seats in front of an emergency exit usually don't recline
____ Request seats which aren't close to the galley (kitchen) and lavatories (usually in the rear) - for a quieter ride
____ Request a seat near the front - away from the engines - for a quieter ride
After making reservations:
____ Consider obtaining travel insurance which protects you in the event the flights are cancelled or delayed excessively (read the policy very carefully for exclusions, etc.)
If you see the same flight advertised for less than you paid:
____ Ask to be re-ticketed at the lower fare
After getting your ticket(s)/itinerary:
____ Check them carefully to ensure they are for the flight, time and airport you ordered
____ Safeguard the ticket(s) - they are highly pilferable and should be treated as if they were cash
____ Write/type and make copies of your itinerary
____ Provide itinerary to neighbors, friends and/or family
____ Make plans to leave for the airport in plenty of time (anticipate unexpected delays, e.g., traffic, long check-in lines, security checks) - your flight may be overbooked and you could lose your seat if you show up later than approx. 15 minutes before departure time
____ Arrange for transportation to airport, e.g.:
- Ask someone to drive you
- Taxi/shuttle
- Drive your own vehicle (ensure adequate parking available for reasonable price)
If you are not satisfied with your travel arrangements (e.g., flights cancelled):
____ Complain to the airline or charter company
If you're still not satisfied:
____ Call the Department of Transportation: (202) 366-2220
DAY BEFORE FLYING:
____ Check the weather forecast for the origination, intermediate and destination airports for your flight
If weather is not forecast to be good for flying:
____ Change your reservations
____ Plan to wear loose clothing (e.g., no girdle-type articles, tight elastic) for the flight(s) - to help prevent potentially-fatal blood clot from sitting in seat for long period
____ Pack (see Packing)
____ Place your name, addresses (home and/or destination), phone numbers (home and/or destination) and itinerary inside your luggage
____ Lock your luggage
____ Take (swallow) an aspirin - to help prevent potentially fatal blood clot from sitting in seat for long period
Once you've packed your bags:
____ Don't let any strangers have access to your bags - a terrorist could place a bomb in your bags
SHORTLY BEFORE FLYING:
____ Avoid drinking alcohol or carbonated beverages, and, avoid drinks with caffeine (can cause dehydration), until after the flight(s) - to help prevent potentially-fatal blood clot from sitting in seat for long period
____ Drink lots of water and/or fruit juices - to help prevent potentially-fatal blood clot resulting from sitting in seat for long period
UPON ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT:
____ Don't accept anything from a stranger to carry onto the airplane - a terrorist could have placed a bomb, etc. in the item
____ Request a seat next to an empty seat (avoid the seats directly in front of emergency exit rows - the seat backs usually do not recline fully)
If you would like more legroom and are physically able to open the emergency exit:
____Ask for a seat in an emergency exit row
If you are bumped because the airline oversold the flight:
____ Understand what you are entitled to - in most cases, approx. $400 in denied boarding compensation plus a seat on the next available flight
____ Consider negotiating for more than just what you are entitled to
AFTER BOARDING THE AIRCRAFT:
____ Avoid putting a lot of stuff under the seat in front of you - so you will have room to move your feet and keep blood circulating in your legs to avoid possible blood clot
____ Take off your shoes - to help avoid blood clots
If you have children with you:
____ Consider giving them a small dose of an antihistamine to help them sleep during the flight - it's probably best for them to be awake for the landing - so they will notice ear discomfort during descent and can drink from a bottle, cry, chew, etc. to relieve the discomfort
INFLIGHT:
____ Spend as much of the flight as feasible in your seat with your seat belt securely fastened - sudden turbulence can cause serious injury
____ Get out of seat and walk around occasionally (but be prepared for turbulence) - to help prevent potentially fatal blood clot from sitting in seat for long period
Regularly:
____ Move and flex your ankles and toes - to help avoid blood clots
At least every hour:
____ Get up, walk around and stretch - to help avoid blood clots
If you lose feeling in a leg:
____ Be aware that you might have a blood clot in your leg which could travel to your lung, heart, etc. - people with heart disease, cancer and/or varicose veins, and, smokers are especially at risk of developing a blood clot
BEFORE DESCENT:
____ Be prepared to chew gum, yawn, etc. to relieve ear discomfort
If you're travelling with an infant:
____ Give him/her a bottle to suck on - to help relieve ear discomfort

Adventure Travel
You often hear people talking about adventure travel and that makes you wonder as to what adventure travel actually is. It is something by which u can add adventure and fun to your life. So before going for an adventure travel, you must know what it is. Adventure travels does not mean that you have to endanger your life for your trip to be called adventurous!
The term adventurous is a concept that is not defined physically when you talk about adventure travel. This concept is defined psychologically. Different people have different definitions of adventure. Earlier adventure travels meant going abroad or just traveling to different places. However, its definition has changed today. Adventure travel is when you experience an event rather than being a mere spectator in your travels. It is actually living in the present and experiencing the place and not just sight seeing.
Adventure is different for everyone. What may appear adventurous to you could be totally boring for someone. And that is reason that there are so many options available if you want to go for adventure travels. You can choose the one which suits you, and more importantly the one which excites you! White water rafting or kayaking can be fun for someone. On the other hand camping in an interesting place can de defined as adventurous by some people. Hot air balloon ride may sound boring to you but it can be the perfect adventure travel for some.
Adventure travel is when you get yourself involved in an enthralling experience. It includes boating, kayaking, hiking, sky diving, mountain climbing, scuba diving, sailing, bicycling and much more! You should not indulge yourself into any form of adventure travels in which you are not comfortable. The level of risk in your travel is defined by you just like term adventure is defined individually. Adventure travel is getting yourself engaged into a new experience but make sure that you are totally comfortable in what you are doing.
You can choose a tour if you wish to go for adventure travels. Such adventure travel tours are available for couples and families. But do not worry in case you are single, adventure tours are also available for you. So you can make a plan for an adventure tour. You can choose a tour which suits you best. These tours usually have two groups of people. One group goes on sight seeing and visits their areas of interest, whereas the other group involves itself in adventurous activities. Of course the type of activity depends on the tour which you have selected.
It is a misconception that adventure travel is only for the younger people. You can indulge yourself into it irrespective of your age. Adventure travels is enjoyed by one and all. It is not uncommon to see an old couple getting engaged in adventurous activities. Having worked hard throughout their life, they want o experience something new and enthralling. You can meet people from all quarters of life in adventure travel. Now, meeting different people from different backgrounds can itself be very adventurous!
You can choose an adventure travels which excites you. It can simply be going out of the country to some distant place or maybe engaging yourself in bunjee jumping. Whichever activity you choose, just make sure that you are comfortable in it, for there will be no fun and no adventure if you are not comfortable!

Adventure Travel Tours: A Day on the Trail
Autor: kevinriley
An adventure travel vacation is a great way to explore your world. Join a group of fun people who share your interests as we go on a day hike in the Alps. Enjoy a little taste of Switzerland.
~ Up, Up, and Away ~
After consuming a hearty breakfast, we depart for the trailhead. It's close to our conveniently located inn, so we take a leisurely stroll - greeting friendly locals and shopkeepers along the way.
We board a bright red cable car that whisks us soaring above the valley to a far away peak. One of your companions excitedly nudges you, "Look, marmots!". We gaze at a trio of cuddly creatures staring back at us from the rockface - so close we feel we could reach out and touch them.
We disembark at a solid rock and timber mountain station - now peaceful, this station hosts a clattering mass of skiers during the winter season.
~ Clean Mountain Air and Emerald Lakes ~
Breathing in the fresh mountain air, we set out on our trail. Carpets of wildflowers surround us. Gentle cows graze the alpine grasses - serenading us with a cheerful tinkle of bells. Hiking here is so refreshing.
A meandering path leads us through hillocks of glacial moraine, now cloaked in a splendid green, to the edge of a startlingly beautiful emerald lake. The nearby mountains reflect on its surface.
We make a brief stop to admire this natural jewel. Some of our group rambles around the tiny lake - others lay back and enjoy the serenity.
~ Hiking Amongst Towering Peaks ~
Our trail continues along a high mountain valley bordered by towering snow-capped peaks. Beautiful Alpenroses form a lovely rolling heath. We tramp across a small snowfield - its coolness underfoot contrasts with the glorious warmth of the alpine sun.
We spy a cairn ahead with the familiar red-and-white trail marking painted on one of its rocks. Rounding a corner we spot our lunchtime destination in the distance - a solid Berghaus growing out of the surrounding rocks.
~ Lunching on the Sonnenterrasse ~
As we settle ourselves on a rustic, sun-drenched Sonnenterrasse, a tantalizing smell of frying onions and sausages greets us. Lunch is hearty mountain fare - plates heaped with Rosti mit Spiegeleier und Speck (a wonderfully golden, crispy fried potato pancake with egg and bacon) - served by a flaxen-haired girl in a traditional, powdery-blue farmer's smock.
We wash down our delicious lunch with bottles of local beer and gaze out across a massive glacier winding its way down between two peaks and glistening in the sunlight.
~ Stunning Views ~
Well sated, we regain our trail and soon find ourselves breaking out onto a sloping hillside - affording us stunning views of the valley far below. We see a tiny hamlet across the valley, its sun-burned houses and barns surround a central church spire. A massive mountain rears up behind this peaceful scene.
Slowly dropping down a gentle path, we enter a straggle of dwarf pine. We're greeted by a pungent fragrance that reminds us of the cleanliness of this wonderful habitat. The afternoon sun is gaining strength and it's a perfect time for us to enter the cool loaminess of the lower forest. We follow the edge of a cascading glacier-fed creek - its frostiness refreshes the air around us.
~ Warm Sun and the Smell of Hay ~
We clatter across an ancient wooden bridge - its surface well worn by generations of cows being driven to Alpine meadows. In the lower pastures, local farmers are harvesting the hay with large wooden rakes. A comforting, sun-rich smell of dried grasses greets us.
~ Off to the Konditorei ~
The relaxing smell of hay and the warmth of the sun has put us into a peaceful, lazy mood. We beeline to the nearest Konditorei to debate our biggest decision of the day - is it to be the daintily glazed apricot torte, the decadent chocolate mousse with lashings of whipped cream, or the traditional (and oh so tasty) Engadiner Nusstorte.
We relax in a cozy nook and relieve today's experiences.
~ Relaxing Back at the Inn ~
We amble back to our welcoming inn - a great time for relaxed exploration of the local shops. Back at the inn, some members catch up on reading in the inn's glorious wood-paneled library - others send postcards or nap in the warm afternoon sun.
Later, we'll watch as the sun paints the mountains with golden color. An adventure travel vacation in Switzerland is a fantastic experience.
Tomorrow, we set off on another lovely adventure.
