Taling Chan; Bangkok floating market

Taling Chan is a small floating market found on the Western outskirts of Bangkok (Bangkok Noi) across the Pinklao bridge. Vendors on their boats sell vegetables, fruits and other ready to eat food. The food you buy from the boats you can consume right there on the floating restaurants.

It was really pleasant spending the afternoon at the floating market, you just forget the traffic and smog in the center of the city for a while. We had some food and drinks while listening to the Thai music and dancing.

You can also visit the area around the market by long tail boat.
We got there by taxi and and by the way you can also catch a bus from the center of Bangkok bus no.79. Next time I go I will take the Air conditioned bus there.

Here are some pictures.

Discounted trips to the zoo? No, homemade

When my little one is not talking about animals then he is either working on his zoo which he does atleast every day. And or he is watching his best group TOTO and doing some kind of Karaoke or he is trying some dancing with the famous "Singing in the rain".

He asked for a photo for his Zoo so I decided to put it here anyway.

But he is not asking santa to bring another Zoo instead he is asking for some electric guitar.....ohohoho just 4 years and half..

You have a minute then here's a 1 minute talk show about animals by the little one
Enjoy the show!

Medical tourism

Every year more and more people travel to South East Asia i.e. Thailand, Malaysia and India where they save more than 60% off some of the surgical procedures. Not only the costs but also they get high quality treatments and no waiting time. Travelling costs to these countries is cheap and accommodation too.

I lived in Thailand again between 2003-2005 and I had the opportunities to see for myself this growing phenomena. Pediatrics department which I have used many times not only for me but also for some visiting families can never be found anywhere else. So when I went away from Thailand sometime even when my son had a cold I would dream Bangkok. But, now I'm back.
One of the biggest hospitals receiving this mass medical tourism is Bumrungrad hospital which serves over a million patients annually and among these over 400,000 are internationals (expatriates and visitors from 190 countries)

If you are travelling to Thailand even for a holiday and need to see a doctor you know where to go.

Visit their website and learn more.

Budget car hire in thailand

You might be planning a trip to Thailand and wondering what options to take while moving around. Moving around in Thailand is easy even without having to drive yourself, taxis, trains, flights to different towns and highland. You will have a wide range to choose from and usually reliable.
But, if you really must drive yourself then it can be also an interesting way to see the places, this will give you an opportunity to stop whenever you want and as long as you want.
In Thailand you drive on the left hand side with speed limits of 60 kilometers per hour in towns and 90-110 out of towns. The roads are highly mantained and there are highways between major towns.

Road signs are both English and
Thai. While driving beware of motorbikes that can spring up from anywhere especially in towns! Drive safely and you will find driving on Thai roads interesting and enjoyable.

Here are some links to help you out.

Kings 80th Birthday

Yesterday, Thailand marked 80th birthday of the King. It was a very colourful event especially in Bangkok where everyone turned up dressed in yellow.
My son and I looked forward to the evening event that was planned to mark this big day. In the afternoon we started off by going to the movies to watch the golden compass.

Later we took a taxi to the area around Democracy monument about democracy monument: was started in 1939 to commemorate the 1932 revolution that ended the absolute monarchy and introduced Siam's first constitution. It is located between Grand Palace and Dusit Palace. This monument was designed by an Italian immigrant. The location of this monument is halfway between Sanam Luang and the Golden Mount. From Khaosan it is a walk away.

The area was flowing with visitors, Thais coming from all over to wish the King a happy birthday. We really enjoyed this day's events. The peak was when the King passed through here to go to his Palace and waving to the people, we only managed to see from the wide TV that was available at the square as there were too many people. It was an experience.
It was crowned with wonderful fireworks from the near Sanam Luang grounds. Here are some of the pictures with more to follow.

Romantic Sunset Over the nile

Our greatest travel adventure that took us to Cairo:
During our August trip trip to Cairo we enjoyed a romantic dinner on a Nile Cruise Boat, also because it was our 6th wedding anniversary. Our son enjoyed every bit of this travel and on this particular evening he had a taste of belly dance.
if you are going to Cairo even for few days there are few places you should not miss.
1)Great pyramids and the sphinx
2)Dinner on the boat over Nile river
3)Saqqara:location of the first Egyptian pyramid
Others places we visited and liked was the Citadel and Egyptian Antiquities Museum

I hope you will enjoy your trip to Cairo. We planned all our trip so we spent very little. Budget travelling saving your pocket
Cairo I wish I can come back

Salzburg 'creche' for Xmas-weary men

For the second year in a row, a 'creche' will be set up in the town centre where women can leave their partners for a few hours so that they can hunt down all those last-minute presents, without a bored and whingeing spouse.

In a large white tent set up on Salzburg's central Herbert-von-Karajan square, the men will be able to play computer games, leaf through newspapers or magazines such as Playboy, or simply have a drink at the bar with co-suffering "shopping widowers".

Between December 13-23, women can "surrender" their partners at the tent's entrance free of charge between 4:00 pm-10:00 pm.
